Find My Clan 04:29
Find My Clan GS Cooke 060121 Out in the wilderness I lost my way Under the radar I went astray Hurt into exile alone I ran This year my plan is to find my clan Shoots of a daffodil prick frozen earth A sign of resistance, symbol of re-birth I’m gonna to use that image to steady my resolve Allow my purpose to evolve Seeking out kindred searching for blood Longing to gleam like diamonds in mud Misfits, minstrels, poets and bards Verses born from bruises and the scars I’ve been a vagrant in my belief Too long oppressed by a spirit thief Out of restrained out of discreet Set free my words sureness replete Let go the demons lodged in my heart Twist in the light to folds of dark I will ascend spread my wingspan This year my plan is to find my clan Seeking out kindred searching for blood Longing to gleam like diamonds in mud Misfits, minstrels, poets and bards Verses born from bruises and the scars

Song of a Wren GS Cooke 060122 The song of a wren announces the dawn From the dark rag of night, daylight is torn I sit with a tea alone in my thoughts Thankful I’m here to witness it all The first hint of sun caresses the sky Touches its glow to cloud underside I sit here in silence how lucky am I To watch it unfold in front of my eyes Golden waves paint warmth on my skin I exhale the blues and breath it all in It’s easy to miss moments like this When the pace of this world disrupts everything The scent of a rose perfumes the air Cast like a net as senses are snared Pulled to the ground my essence to bare No fears to give and devil may care The morning bestows, I gratefully take To ignore this gift would be a mistake And now fully fuelled I take out my pen And detail my thoughts to the song of a Wren

Boot Hill 04:32
Boot Hill G S Cooke 2022 The wolf moon throws its silver light on my duvet I lie unsleeping in the milky glow The night is cold I sense the bite of winter Jack Frost begins to weave his mosaic throw Sleep persists to claim me in the stillness Too much endeavour for a weary mind Eventually my eyes give way to blackness And through the solace of my dreams I wind The grey streets bend to the rainbows end Where the green fields greet me like a long lost friend I reminisce I can resist It helps me circumvent life’s great abyss Grey pavement takes me past the rows of houses Then along the jitty to the cemetery I meander slowly through the crooked headstones Up to the chapel and its sanctuary I stare across the valley from boot hill The stand at Crich attracts my searching eyes And briefly I surrender to reflection And float subconscious in the mackerel skies

Wolf in Steve’s Clothing GS Cooke 14/03/21 I’m reminiscing again, down memory lane I get a pinch of regret, I get a whiff of distain I should have seen the signs, right in front of my eyes I thought you were benign, Imagine my surprise When you stepped out your skin in a moment of fury Your true colours shining in all their glory Sharpening your claws and flashing your teeth You set free the demon that was living beneath There’s a wolf in Steve’s clothing It’s very hard to suppress, the bayonet of distress The hammer blow of remorse has such a crippling effect All the tell tell signs, I should have recognised It never crossed my mind, imagine my surprise When you stepped out your skin in a moment of fury Your true colours shining in all their glory Sharpening your claws and flashing your teeth Opened up your soul and let free the beast

Sad Eyed Boy GS Cooke 2022 You were such a sad eyed boy All the pictures hanging on your mother’s wall Show a face that doesn’t really want to be there Show a little boy that yeans to crawl Back into those young sad eyes You were such a fragile boy Broken by the slightest noise Shiver at the hostile voice brittle self-belief destroyed you were such a fragile boy You were such a sad eyed soul Trouble hanging heavy on your brow Like a crane fly tangled in a silky web Swinging in the final throws of death Sad eyed sorrow sad eyed dread Pictures tell a thousand lies Interpret them anyway you feel The truth is there for you to steal History free to re-write Yesterday will be transcribed. And I never noticed at the time When we were young and in our youthful prime But as I look back for a reason and a rhyme I see a sad eyed boy staring to the skies For a miracle of planets to align For a miracle of planets to collide

Life is Art 04:33
Life is art GS Cooke 2022 With a fragile mind And a brittle heart It’s never taken much to Pull yourself apart But here you are On a rising star Flying through the universe Of click bait avatars life is art and you live it every day shape it with your actions and with all the words you say Life is art and doesn’t end with your last breath It lives on through the memories of everyone you met With a steady hand And a canny eye You form a sculpture Of an agonising life But here you lie In a bed of your own shame Wallowing in anguish For the likes you ascertain With a loaded brush And a palette bold Your canvas cries of miseries yet to evolve There’s a gentle pull Then push away There’s a limit to the truth That you’re prepared to display

Melting Ice Cream Cookie December 2019 She fell under his spell And gleamed like a winkle prized out of its shell His eyes strayed from the prize The moment he slipped from the warmth of her thighs Now she’s holding on to the past Grabbing at sand as it falls through her grasp She is holding on to a dream Holding on to a melting ice cream She swooned and swayed in his arms Her ventricles danced to the tune of his charm His spark died in a flash The chase clearly far better fun than the catch Now she’s holding on to the past Grabbing at sand as it falls through her grasp She’s holding on to a dream She’s holding on to a melting ice cream True love is hard to pin down It flirts between worlds of the lost and the found If lost love is monarchy bound I’ll be its queen and I’ll wear the crown His truth was spiteful and slight He said he believed in love at first sight Hollow words shot from his gun Paving the way for this prodigal son Now she’s holding on to the past Grabbing at sand as it falls through her grasp She’s holding on to a dream She’s holding on to a melting ice cream

Halcyon Days 06:11
Halcyon Days GS Cooke 2022 I woke from a dream where I’m fighting the craving And my first conscious thoughts are as black as a Raven Because I’m nurturing feelings i spent so long erasing And I know that I don’t want to go there again But then confidence ran with surprising deception It took me beyond, and I made the connection Opened my core to embrace the infection And I know nothing now can stand in the way These are halcyon days This is the moment we’ve waited for These are halcyon days And this is the time of our lives With words that can stun and a story that dazes You’re off to the stars on a rocket that blazes And I’m digging a hole with my bumbling phrases But happy enough to stand in your light With two heads as one we’ll find the solution We’re forcing the pace of a new evolution And planning the route of our next revolution And gathering like minded troops for the fight These are halcyon days This is the moment we’ve waited for These are halcyon days And this is the time of our lives You be the flame, I’ll be the moth Something is found, something is lost

Sweet Ghost 03:17
Sweet Ghost GS Cooke 2022 The birds of summer shake out wings of winter Before they fly away to warmer lands Autumn colours fall across the flora As day surrenders to the nights command This time of year I always think about you You feel so close after the twilight fades Someone suggested that the veil is thinnest Between the sowen and the darker days Sweet ghost, come home I walk across a room of smiling faces But I don’t recognise a single one Maybe they live in my imagination Like you just spirits of the dead and gone Days are cooler now the light is failing The orange sun just flatters to deceive Warmth is something from a former life I watch with envy as the swallows leave

Same Old Rivers GS Cooke 2022 There are no vacancies For lazy arsed complacency The lost opportunities To mis-herd immunity So many sheep get side tracked By hollow words and wise cracks Hypnotised by the fragrancy Of billy bullshit pou pouri We drift along contented rivers Into the seas of apathy Where all fight and resistance withers Devolve into the conscience free Drifting down the same old rivers Where nothing ever rocks the boat Bodies bloat and minds grow thinner Just satisfied to stay afloat There’s no escaping The consequence of a ticking clock It’s hard to contemplate a change Before my thumping heartbeat stops You’ll never beat a sneaky cheat With a condescending tweet It’s just obvious and lame You need to think about raising your game Daren’t breath daren’t make a sound Scared to step from the merry go round Water wings for obedient troops Rebels all swimming in concreate boots

All downhill from here Cookie 110321 Don’t stop me now I’m on a roll I put repose into my soul There’s no response, there’s no control The needle drops out of the hole A little bird sings in the tree The song is pure melancholy The notes are vivid, they’re in 3D They paint a picture that I can see And it’s all downhill from here I’m drowning in a well brim-full with my own tears And it been downhill for years I watch it drop over the edge and disappear Don’t stop me now I understand I am the thorn the firebrand Seeketh the grail the holy land The bottle drops out of the hand The kitchen clock ticks a tempo The pendulum swing to and fro I’m in the moment my breathing’s slow We stop the surge we stem the flow

Montbretia 02:12
Montbretia GS Cooke 2021 The dog daisies have just gone over We missed them at their brilliant best Alone they seldom capture the eye But together never fail to impress Montbretia, Montbretia flames skirt along the dragon paths Montbretia, Montbretia take senses with your vibrant wrath Wild mint consumed by hawthorn Hangs scent upon a tender breeze Steal slowly through her wild infusion Drawn downwards to the serpent seas Montbretia, Montbretia flames skirt along the dragon paths Montbretia, Montbretia take senses in your vibrant wrath Rose hips along the dry-stone walling Erupting bloom crowns the grey and green Gold stamen and a petal crimson Weave a patchwork of a tranquile dream

Giving it all away GS Cooke 2022 You’ve a heart that’s very grand Such a dazzling force of nature It’s a legend in this land It is a thing of celebration But you’re giving it all away patience is a strength It’s the core of your foundation And you wear it without conscience Like a medal of salvation Middle eight These are the virtues that you show me everyday We grow in essence as we give these things away But I hate to see you slowly lessen over time It’s a gradual decline Empathy’s the key To the door of understanding But it’s sadly seldom seen In a world that’s so demanding You wear it like a coat and offer it so freely You give it all away You give it all so freely
